Heavy-headed sunflowers bow against a deep midnight-blue ground in this moody, atmospheric still life. Hovhannes Avetisyan turns the familiar flower on its head — these are not bright summer blooms but darkened, ripened seed-heads, their petals flickering like flames of yellow and green against shadowed centers touched with sparks of red. A pair of pears glows softly in the lower corner, echoing the warm accents. The textured, scumbled surface and rich cobalt palette lend the work a contemplative, almost nocturnal mood, where beauty and decay intertwine. Bold yet introspective, this is a striking reinvention of the sunflower still life, full of quiet drama and painterly depth.
