A hamster peers up from the very bottom of the canvas, its enormous dark eyes and magnificent whiskers filling the frame in a bold, graphic close-up that is equal parts hilarious and charming. Rendered in the artist's distinctive raised contour style, the creature's white cheeks, olive-tinted forehead, and tiny pink nose are built up in clean, confident lines against a warm amber ground. Long silver whiskers reach upward dramatically, commanding the upper half of the composition with comic authority. A small painting with enormous personality — impossible to walk past without smiling.
