Lavash Baking Traditions - Vahe Bagumyan

Two women in traditional white headscarves bake lavash in this warm, vibrant palette-knife painting by Vahe Bagumyan. Seated before round wooden boards, they stretch and shape the thin dough with practised hands — a timeless ritual of Armenian village life. Bold, energetic brushwork and thick impasto build a richly textured scene, set against a backdrop glowing with the reds, golds, and greens of a patterned carpet and rustic interior. The play of light and color lends the everyday craft a sense of celebration, honouring the heritage, warmth, and quiet dignity of women keeping an ancient tradition alive. A heartfelt tribute to bread, home, and the enduring bonds of Armenian culture.
